Why I Choose To Home-Unschool My Children

27th Feb 2019

I chose to have children and I choose to educate them at home, in the world, online, everywhere and anywhere they need and want. This is why: . . I was sitting on the couch trying to sleep (third trimester problems) and I came to a somewhat profound realization – I am almost incapable of living in the moment. There is a song by Alabama called “I’m In A Hurry” that I relate to so terribly, I almost cry listening to it. The lines that resonate the most with me are: “I’m in a hurry to get things done, Oh I rush and rush until life’s no fun” “Can’t be late I leave plenty of time, Shaking hands with the clock I can’t stop” “I hear a voice That say’s I’m running behind, I better pick up my pace” . I am a very type A person, and I am […]

Two Kids: An Update

14th Mar 2016

An 18 month old, a 6 week old, a husband, and two dogs under one roof… Sounds like the beginning of a joke! Well, it is my new reality, and one with which I am quite pleased. Sure there are some tantrums, many stinky diapers, vomiting fits, face reddening screams, and days that just don’t seem to go right no matter what I do. However, the majority of the time there are smiles, laughs, giggles, games, coos, new words, wonder, love, gratefulness, and so much more! SLEEPING: As of last week, we have a great routine down pat with Amelia (6 weeks) and Lili (18 months). Lili goes down like clockwork around 6pm (with the recent time change it bumped up from 5pm) and then Amelia cluster feeds, to go down in the pack n’ play in our room at 7pm. Lili sleeps until 730/800am and has been sleeping 12-14 […]

4 Days In…

2nd Feb 2016

4 days in… It’s that moment when you realize your life is so amazing that you feel bad writing about it publicly because you feel like you are showing off. But you do it anyway 🙂 because you want to spread the joy to others! Perhaps it is my post-natal rush of hormones giving me such wonderful warm fuzzies, but they are undeniable regardless. I have my beautiful, vivacious 16-month-old Liliana who charms her way through anyone’s heart. My new addition, Amelia, is a sweet and squeezable cutie pie. My husband, Alec, is so supportive and helps with Lili every morning he is home. Our two dogs, Aedan and Maya have adjusted wonderfully to having another little one around. And, of course, my family and my husband’s family have been so supportive and wonderful, I really couldn’t have imagined a better situation.   This time around is overall much better […]

Little Lady

17th Aug 2015

Today I did something I never imagined doing, let alone enjoying! I painted Lili’s toes, in pink! She wore a wispy light halter dress with tiny auburn flower buds, matching barrette falling out of her lovely brown hair and a chunky aqua necklace draping down to her knees. We were going through her desk to find things to put in her little sister’s room (due in the beginning of February) when we happened upon a packet of kid safe “piggy polish” some friends gave us when Lili was born. Lili had to explore each color and handed the pink to me, so I thought I would give it a shot. While she stood with four other polishes in her hands, I proceeded to apply little dabs to her tiny toenails. She looked down inquisitively and stood still long enough for me to blow-dry them. I experienced such a flood of […]

My Two Weeks

27th Apr 2015

(Part of) The email I wrote to my Boss/Mentor/Role Model:       I have had a lot of time to think about my priorities and life in general and have come to a decision regarding my level of involvement with the company at this time in my life. It is with a truly heavy heart that I type this… You may not know the positive impact you have had on me, but it has been substantial, and I hope to continue our relationship for many years to come. However, in terms of me moving forward with you, it will be put on hold at the very least.     I want to take the time to explain, because I care about you and what you think of me. I want to do everything, all at once, exceptionally. However, once I am in the thick of it, certain areas of […]
